This is day 20 of our wellness 5 k challenge. One member did a half marathon today. One member went for a bike ride and swim and a 5k. For others, this is the longest streak of 5ks that they have ever completed. As we go along there is a community that is starting to form. More people are posting, more are looking and more are commenting. Not unlike the traditional adoption curves we see in other aspects of life. It has also brought to mind the grade school dance. Those eager to hit the floor and those watching from the chairs around the floor. Over the course of the night, more and more gradually take to the floor making a great evening.
It is amazing how we never let go of personality traits as we age. Trying new things or change comes easier for some more than others. The majority of people over 60 years of age are on medications and carry several diagnosis. It is sad that it is more common that people take a medication everyday that will most likely not add one day to their lives but resist walking and hour to do a 5k. If the walking members can hold on, good health outcomes are sure to come their way. One hour of walking outside is all it takes to decrease all cause mortality. Go ahead and prove me right. Go get your walk on.
We did 4.5 miles with the dogs and finished a total of 10 for the day. The Florida temperatures are climbing. Summer is in the air. The dogs felt the heat as well. Three-o slowed on his last three miles making it a lot easier for me. We had a few dog encounters that were successful at a distance. I do believe he is less reactive with this more gentle approach to do encounters. It is less stressful for all of us. I was a little stiff to begin. My ankle took a while to relax. I was happy to finish with the fastest mile being the last mile. I hope your walk made your day a little less stressful as well.

I did get a chuckle out the grade school dance comment. So True…… and then as adults it seems the later the night gets, the more people are on the dance floor. Wondering if it has anything to do with how they are “hydrating”?
