CARDIOLOGY, PRIMARY CARE AND NUTRITION

Being tired is not a reason to cancel the morning walk according to my inner rules.  But I really didn’t feel it this am.  So I made a deal that I would only walk our 5 k challenge and then call it.  Out the door we went.  I was a little out of kilter from my strength workout last night, and felt like I had two left feet trying to jog.  My legs felt like lead.  Oh well, let’s run and walk and see how it goes.  Three-o on the other hand was moving great.  Most likely because none of us got much sleep last night secondary to him having the itches.  The dog grooming truck passed us which meant that Ben, the sheepdog was going to get groomed and might be out when we hit his street.  Three-o picked up the pace in anticipation only to find Ben was already in the truck.  However, the yellow lab and his owner was just up ahead and could not figure out which way they wanted to walk.  Three-o and I went back and forth and finally retraced our steps out of the circle to avoid a confrontation.  He did good.  So we started to jog to make up time.  Not bad.  My lead legs were softening.  We kept moving and rounded the corner in time to meet a couple of ladies walking.  Three-o loves the ladies and we stopped so he could get a pat on the head.  I am trying to show the neighbors that he is a good boy despite his occasional outbursts at leashed dogs.   To my surprise we were clocking 13 minute paces.  Not bad.  Sophie took the leash at 3 miles and we started back out.

As I recover from my ankle injury, I am trying to run a little more each day.  First it was a few steps, then mailbox to mailbox, then part way down the street.  Now we are seeing how much of 4 minutes I can run and then 30 seconds walk.  Today we made it down a few streets in those 4 minutes without discomfort.  I was tired and my legs were a little heavy but we made it.  Minimal discomfort on the outside of the ankle.  My heart rate was also good for the effort.  Things are looking up.  Get your run in.

The perfect story and motivation for all of us on days we just don’t “feel like moving much”. You are right that most of the time once you get moving things work themself out and it isn’t so bad. I always feel better and proud of myself on those days I didn’t want to move but I sucked it up and got out the door. Glad the ankle seems to be on the mend.
