This month’s Wellness Practice Challenge is walking a daily 5k or 3.1 miles. I have encouraged people to post their documented walk distances and times each day on our private FB page. We have had several participants and even more people watching their posts. As the month has progressed, a few people have dipped their toes into the challenge and posted their walks. It is meant to encourage others and challenge oneself to improve and stay consistent. What can you do today? It is not meant to be a task as a member of the practice but a challenge that brings people together.
I have eluded to the atmosphere of a 5k, half marathon, full marathon, or ultramarathon many times before. They all share the positive attitude of people cheering for total strangers to push themselves and celebrate the victory of accomplishment. Studies have been done, and I have certainly experienced speeding up when a total stranger yells words of encouragement as I run or even walk by. You can do it! Looking great! Keep smiling! It is up lifting. I always pick up the pace no matter I bad I think I am doing. A few simple words can make someones day.
There is abundant positive energy outside even it there are not people cheering. Listen to the birds and enjoy the sunrise while walking. Reflect on the positive results of your efforts. I guarantee, you will pick up your effort and get even more enjoyment of your walk. I hope you get yours in today. Take time to give a shout out to someone else for their efforts as well and feel the rebounding positive energy that flows back to you.

Such a positive post! It made me smile and think “community” does make a difference. Thanks for setting up this challenge and getting us motivate to move.
