Note: Full members attend at no cost. Non-members fee is $175 for the 6 classes (we will contact you to make payment arrangements).
We offer 3 levels of Nutrition Classes:
- LEVEL 1: We focus on the basics: learning plant based cooking, menu planning, and the science supporting the health benefits. Cooking demonstrations and food tasting are a part of each class. We discuss the preparation and nutrients in each dish. There is also a scientific discussion on the mechanisms by which a plant strong diet helps reverse and prevent disease. As part of the course, we take a shopping trip to the local grocery store where we tour the produce aisles and discuss recipes for different vegetables. We teach label reading to help you navigate what is healthy and what is merely a marketing tool with appealing claims to health. I share my tips for tasty meals and secret ingredients. Together we plan menus that are not only easy and quick to prepare but also tasty and eye pleasing. Finally, we discuss the perils of eating out and social situations that might be stressful in the transition to this healthy lifestyle.
- LEVEL 2: This level of nutrition education increases with LEVEL 2. We expand on the scientific discussion on the mechanisms by which a plant strong diet helps reverse and prevent disease. We also focus on menu planning, and begin more complex recipes and cooking styles. As part of the course, we take a shopping trip to the local grocery and focus on budget conscious shopping, being efficient in the grocery store, and the benefits and tactics to buying in-season and local produce.
- LEVEL 3: In LEVEL 3 we will look at advanced studies in the area of plant based nutrition to further support this lifestyle for optimal health and wellness. We will also teach advanced cooking techniques & further expand your recipe books. In this session, we also take a class to discuss vitamins & supplements.
