Podcast Episode 149: Excusitarian Series Number 10 with Timaree Hagenburger

Welcome and thank you for listening. I am pleased to have Timaree Hagenburger, RD back for our last excusitarian episode: fear of missing out. The sad thought that we may not be able to eat at birthday parties, holiday gatherings, favorite junk foods, and eating with friends can make plant based nutrition seem too daunting to accept. The reality is it is quite empowering to call out your fears, accept the challenge and choose not to surender to these self made obstacles. In reality, the food industry goes to great length to hide the additives and chemicals in our food that is making us sick. Pulling back the curtain to expose the junk food for what it is makes one realize we are not missing out but letting strangers make us sick. How long after swallowing sugary, oily, junk food do you no longer feel the joy but the effects of a poor choice along with the guilt. On the other hand after eating a healthy meal you feel light and energetic ready to face the day.
Don’t be a secret agent. By asking for the ingredients in dishes, or substitutions in a polite way you are giving positive feedback to the restaruant so they can learn and expand their menus to meet the demands of customers. The restaruant business if quite competitive and they are more than happy to please their repeat customers.
When making dishes at home, have fun and experiment. Ingredients do not have to be exact and personal substitutions make the dish yours. Learn as you go and enjoy the journey to optimal health and wellness.

I am slowly working my way backwards through all your podcasts and this one really “hit home”. I love the term excusitian and the discussion of FOMO going Plant-based really put my mind at ease. I can’t wait to listen to #1-9 of the excusitian series with Doctor Dulaney and Timaree Hagenburger.
    Just bought her book 🙂
