Cold Kickin’ Back-to-School Smoothie!

Kick that back to school cold to the curb with good nutrition, rest and a tasty immune boosting smoothie. Whipped this up the moment I heart a sniffle from Caleb… packed with immune fighting foods, this smoothie makes for a great snack or something to sip on for hydration and healthful calories when you or your little one aren’t feeling the best. This is also great to mix in as a preventative treat – adding some carrots and greens for more veggie benefit as well!

4+ cups water – hydration 

1 -2 cups pineapple chunks – antioxidant packed with vitamins C, A & E

1 banana –  B6 for immune function & prebiotic fiber (healthy gut = healthy immune system) 

Healthy sized lemon slice (with the rind) – high vitamin C content & fiber

1 Tbsp Manuka honey – antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties 

1 – 1 Tbsp ground flaxseed – omega 3 fatty acids to fight inflammation and fiber for healthy gut 

2 inch hunk of ginger root – immune boosting power house with fiber, vitamins & minerals and its fighting combo of gingerols, shogaols, and paradols that reduce inflammation and can soothe the gut

1/2 tsp turmeric – powerful pain relieve and anti-inflammatory benefits

Blend all until smooth, adding water to get your desired consistency. I like to make a batch and serve in small portions throughout the day to get in hydration and nutrient fighting benefit! Dietitian & kid approved!
