Podcast: Too Much Food, too Little Exercise

Welcome! and Thank you for listening.  Did you take in too much food this weekend and not enough exercise?  That is the norm for this time of year.  It is not too late to get things back under control.  The holiday season is a time of over eating and under exercising.  With the average American taking in 4000 calories on Thanksgiving day followed by excessive intake on the days that follow, it could take 7-10 days to work those excess calories off.  That would translate into running about 6 miles a day for the next week while decreasing daily intake down to pre holiday levels.  Let’s face it, cutting back a little is not going to cut it.

Studies discussed on this episode: How much exercise is too much? Are there quick fixes for knee pain and torn hamstrings? Should you add pomegranates to your diet? When do people realize they are overweight?  Are our current weight loss stratagies effective?

This was my best Thanksgiving since going plant based. I made everything and took it to my brother. He has been making changes and feeling better but still misses some foods. I was even hesitant for some things and maybe not taking them but in the end I took everything and he liked it all so I left him with all the leftovers. He still battles gout when he makes bad choices so I asked him a couple days later if he felt okay later in the day and he said he was fine, no flare up. I’ve now promised to make some other foods for Christmas. He is very open to having me do it.
